India has two very distinct and seperate populations, one that is urban, and the larger one that is rural. Most of the people in India are living a farmer or rural lifestyle, however more and more people are moving towards a more urban life where new jobs are being created. India's few large cities are becomming icons of modern and urban living, while the rural Indian population produces very large amounts of rice and wheat. Right now, 550 million Indian people live in rural areas, while only 300 million live in cities (www.agapeindia.com). Sadly, almost half of the people who live in cities also live in slums, showing that the people think that more jobs are being created than there really are. Many people think that new technology can raise children in a more integrated school system, bridging the gap between rural and urban society when the generation graduates (www.scidev.net). Right now, rural or more traditional India produces India's trademark good such as certain linens, crops, and cultural items. Modern and urban India produces processed, electronic, and manufactured goods. These reasons and more embody the difference between the rural and urban sections of modern India.
